Emotional Wellness
Emotional wellness is a vital part of achieving overall wellness. Emotional wellness involves the ability to effectively cope with life’s challenges and to manage emotions in a healthy and positive way. The Emotional Dimension of Wellness includes the awareness, control, and expression of our emotions, leading to a positive self-image and healthy relationships with others.
Emotional wellness can contribute to mental and physical health. A healthy emotional state can reduce feelings of anxiety and depression that can lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, gastrointestinal issues, and fatigue. Additionally, emotional wellness can enhance cognitive function, improve memory, and increase self-confidence.
the International Council of Active Ageing (ICAA) suggests that there are several ways older people can promote emotional wellness. One is to maintain social connections. Humans are social creatures, and social isolation can contribute to depression and anxiety. The Village Hub offers a wide range of social activities that you can take part in. These activities provide the opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and build connections with others in the community. Some of the social activities include Coffee Club, Crafty Friends, and Hub Book Club and Community Lunch as well as our many special Events.
Another way to promote emotional wellness is to engage in activities that promote self-expression. The Hub offers various artistic programs, such as Art Class, Line Dancing, Zumba, Chapters and Mackie St Singers. These activities can help you process your emotions and express yourself in a positive and creative way.
ICAA also recommends practicing mindfulness techniques. Programs like Tai Chi and Yoga classes that promote mindfulness and relaxation can reduce stress levels, promote relaxation, and increase overall emotional wellbeing.
